Black Panther safari in Kenya
A good friend of Wildlife Trails and superb photographer, Chris Brunskill returned from Laikipia wilderness camp last spring, and his amazing images of Giza have been published all around the world. There are many reasons why a beautiful cat like Giza becomes less shy and is seen more regularly by the safari vehicles and of course this can also change rapidly, due to terrotorial fights or other factors which might lead to her moving away or keeping a lower profile.
Allan then went out with a group in September 2023 and enjoyed 4 stunning consecutive days with Giza, with everything from her at night in a tree on a kill, witnessing the start of a hunt as she ran flat out near the river, having her walk metres from our vehicle and two seperate river crossings right in front of us – it was hard to believe it was happening and we had to remind ourselves to breathe!
So now its time to do it all over again next year. Whose up for it?

After breakfast we will be picked up from our hotel and driven approximately 40 minutes to the famous Wilson Airport. Extra luggage allowances will have been organised in advance (25kg per person) and we will take the short bush flight to Nanyuki. On arrival we will be met by staff from Laikipia wilderness camp and transferred approximately 3 hours to our private camp by the river.
We will enjoy our first late evening and night time safari today.

Four full days of early morning, late afternoon and night time drives
Of course most leopards are nocturnal in their behaviour and so for us to increase our chances of success, we need to be active when they are and that is the reason we will have many extended later afternoon and night time drives in Gizas territory to increase our chances. Expect most photography to take place in very low light conditions, or under torch light, when you will be shooting at high ISO levels.
This area is also well known for African wild dogs and a thriving leopard population, so ourselves and our local guides will be on the look out for Apex Predator action in the surrounding area.

Fly back to Nairobi or extend your trip in Kenya
Because Laikipia wilderness camp is such ‘hot’ property at the moment, we have booked the maximum number of night available, but we can easily add on extension to amazing Kenya national parks, such as Amboseli and the Masai Mara. Last year we organised a successful trip for two of our clients to Aberdares national park for the Black Serval.
