JULY 14-16

THREE FULL DAYS OF GAME DRIVES INSIDE THE PARK

Ruaha sprawls within and along the Great Rift Valley, covering a unique transition zone where the Eastern and Southern species of both fauna and flora meet against a dramatic topographical backdrop. This is also one of the few Tanzanian parks where sightings of the rarer antelope, such as the Sable, the Roan and both Lesser & Greater Kudu, are a probability rather than a possibility. The proliferation of plains game in the park also ensures that the larger predators – leopard and large prides of lion – are unusually active

JULY 17

TRANSFER FROM RUAHA TO MIKUMI

After breakfast proceed to Mikumi National Park with lunch boxes. Mikumi National Park abuts the northern border of Africa’s biggest game reserve – the Selous – and is transected by the surfaced road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the popular centre piece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains.

JULY 18

FULL DAY DRIVE WITH PACKED LUNCH IN MIKUMI

Expect sightings to include good herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo and Impala; as well as smaller numbers of warthog, waterbuck and Bohor reedbuck. Elephants and Giraffe are common sightings from the loop road; especially the areas with denser populations of Acacia trees. Lions and Spotted Hyena are the most likely predators to be seen

JULY 19

DRIVE FROM MIKUMI TO SELOUS WITH GAME DRIVE ENROUTE

After breakfast, depart to Selous Game Reserve, with lunch boxes, across Uluguru Mountains, via Matambwe Gate, with game drive enroute. Few other safaris in Tanzania evoke the romance, mystique and spiritual delight of the African bush as one in the Selous Game Reserve. Embracing 54,000 square km of south-western Tanzania, it is one of the largest protected wilderness reserve on the continent, three times larger than the Serengeti and twice the size of Belgium

Accommodation : Selous Kulinda Camp

JULY 20&21

TWO FULL DAYS OF SAFARIS IN SELOUS GAME RESERVE

Estimates for animal populations in Selous are simply staggering. An elephant herd numbering around 100,000 – representing between 5-10% of the total African population of elephants. The buffalo population is estimated at 200,000, there are around 18,000 hippos, over 2000 of the endangered Black rhino and it is famous around the world as one of the best places to see African Wild Dogs. As magnificent as these numbers are; sadly for wildlife lovers less than 10% is actually protected for photographic safaris and wildlife viewing, whereas over 90% is divided into multiple hunting concessions

JULY 22

DRIVE BACK FROM SELOUS TO DAR AND OVERNIGHT

Final morning safari before leaving your delightful camp and driving (with a packed lunch) 4-5 hours back to Dar to the ‘Slipway Hotel’ for your overnight accommodation
