DAY 1

ARRIVE IN SAN JOSE AND OVERNIGHT AT A LUXURY HOTEL

Arrive into San Jose international airport and enjoy a private transfer to your luxury hotel. San José is perched at an elevation of 1150m, with the Poás, Barva, and Irazú volcanoes rising gracefully over the city to the north, and the rugged Talamanca mountains to the south.

DAY 2

PRIVATE TRANSFER TO BOCA TAPADA

After breakfast your driver and private vehicle will drive you to Boca Tapada and from there you will take a boat. The area around Boca Tapada is one of the main nesting sites of the endangered Great Green Macaw and has some stunning rainforest.

DAYS 3&4

FULL ACCESS TO SPECIALIST PHOTOGRAPHY HIDES

The Lodge has specially designed hideaways for photographers where you can take pictures at a distance no greater than four meters, and with natural background, of a great variety of birds like toucans, orioles, parrots, honeyeaters, tanagers, woodpeckers and many more species. There is also a specialist hide for bats.

DAY 5

PRIVATE CAR TRANSFER TO THE CLOUD FOREST

The beautiful valley of Bajos del Toro is flanked by Poas Volcano in the east and the foothills of Viejo Volcano in the west. This is an area of hidden waterfalls and lush cloud forest. On arrival you will check into the your accommodation.

DAYS 6&7

EXPLORE THE MANY TRAILS IN THE CLOUD FOREST

You are free to walk and explore the many trails (from difficult to easy grading) from the lodge and enjoy the many different species which are attracted to the lodges gardens and feeders. They also have an amazing Orchid garden which is you visit at the right time of year is a stunning sight.

DAY 8

PRIVATE TRANSFER TO TO SAN GERARDO DE DOTA

After breakfast you will be transfered by road to San Gerardo de Dota. Situated in a valley furrowed by Río Savegre, it is famous for being one of the best sites for Quetzal watching

DAY 9

FULL DAY FREE FOR QUETZAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND OTHER WILDLIFE

San Gerardo de Dota is home to a large population of one of the most beautiful birds in the Americas, the Resplendent Quetzal. From the Trogoniade Family and sacred bird to the ancient indigenous cultures, Quetzals have a peaceful and tranquil living in the area and reside here year round. The climate and good amount of food (Aguacatillo tree) provide a great habitat for these birds.

DAY 10

PRIVATE TRANSFER TO ESQUINAS RAINFOREST

Hidden in the jungle of remote Piedras Blancas National Park in southern Costa Rica, Esquinas Rainforest Lodge is surrounded by untouched wilderness. It is a hot spot for birdwatchers and nature lovers wishing to experience the sounds and sights of a tropical rainforest in a tranquil, undisturbed atmosphere.

DAYS 11&12

TWO DAYS OF WILDLIFE ACTIVITIES AND PHOTOGRAPHY

On the day hike there is a good chance to see many colorful birds, shiny butterflies, bizarre insects, frogs, or possibly monkeys, agouti-pacas, coatis, caimans, basilisks or even a wildcat. Nocturnal wildlife to be seen includes snakes, frogs and toads (our record stands at 17 species on one single tour!), bats, owls, spiders and maybe bigger mammals. Duration: 2 – 3 hours

DAY 13

PRIVATE TRANSFER TO PUERTO JIMÉNEZ

Located in a unique and fortunate position at the very tip of the Osa Peninsula in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica, this 750+ acre forest reserve features private, spacious bungalows and gorgeous houses perched atop the cliffs of Cabo Matapalo, each with beautiful ocean views

DAYS 14&15

TWO FULL DAYS OF GUIDED WILDLIFE HIKES

Two full days to enjoy the numerous walks and hikes on offer in the beautiful rainforest which is on your doorstep. Very often wildlife, like the theatrical spider monkeys, will come to your bungalows garden to feed, but a hike with one of the lodge expert naturalists will give you a clearer picture of the beauty and diversity of this forest.

DAY 16

FLY BACK TO SAN JOSE FROM PUERTO JIMÉNEZ

Sadly, this is the final day of your Costa Rica wildlife holiday and after breakfast we transfer you to Puerto Jiménez to connect with a flight to San Jose. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the international terminal to connect with your flight home.
