Sloths and Monkeys
Experts on Costa Rica rainforests and ecosystems all acknowledge that mammal viewing in this species rich country is far from easy and many of the original Costa Rica eco lodges were set up more for birding groups, than mammal enthusiasts. Therefore a tour focused on viewing sloths, monkeys and other mammals species in Costa Rica needs to be carefully planned and include longer stays at the key habitat locations for primates and other mammals. With our ‘Sloths and Monkeys’ tour we have consulted wildlife photographers, our own trips and that of our clients to bring together all the elements required for some great mammal viewing.

Bespoke WildlifeDAY 1
ARRIVE IN SAN JOSE AND OVERNIGHT IN A LUXURY HOTEL
Accommodation : Grano de Oro

DAY 2
PRIVATE TRANSFER TO DOMINICAL
Accommodation : Hacienda Baru

DAYS3&4
TWO FULL DAYS OF JUNGLE WALKS LOOKING FOR PRIMATES
This is a much less visited area for tourists than Manuel Antonio, which is 40 minutes down the road, so when you see the wildlife and want to take pictures, you will not feel rushed or crowded out. One night you will hike along a waterway where your guide will look for caimans, tree frogs, owls, kinkajou, and if you’re up for it, even snakes. If reptiles and amphibians are exciting for you, you’ll be delighted with the number of species that can be seen.

DAY 5
PRIVATE TRANSFER TO ESQUINAS RAINFOREST LODGE
Accommodation : Esquinas Rainforest

DAYS 6&7
TWO DAYS OF WILDLIFE ACTIVITIES AND PHOTOGRAPHY
On the day hike there is a good chance to see many colorful birds, shiny butterflies, bizarre insects, frogs, or possibly monkeys, agouti-pacas, coatis, caimans, basilisks or even a wildcat. Nocturnal wildlife to be seen includes snakes, frogs and toads (our record stands at 17 species on one single tour!), bats, owls, spiders and maybe bigger mammals. Duration: 2 – 3 hours

DAY 8
PRIVATE TRANSFER TO SIERPE
Accommodation : Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge

DAYS 9-12
5 INCREDIBLE DAYS IN CASA CORCOVADA
If you could pick any Costa Rica jungle lodge to stay at for 6 days when your focus is mammals and ‘more open’ photography opportunities then it is 100% certain that the chose would be Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge , located on the stunning and mammal rich Osa Peninsula. For this tour, we include two full day visits by boat to Sirena Park station. This trail, which is not included by many companies, provides you with one of the best chances to see Tapir anywhere in Costa Rica!

DAY 13
FLIGHT FROM PALMAR SUR TO SAN JOSÉ
Sadly, this is the last day of your Costa Rica wildlife holiday and after a thrilling 5 nights and 6 days in Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge, you will fly back from Palmar Sur to San José.
