Scotland Wildlife Holiday to Skye and Mull

If you were taking your first Scotland wildlife holiday and hoping to see some of the iconic marine and terrestrial wildlife, the locations that would be on the top of your list, would be the Isle of Skye and the Isle of Mull; located in the spectacular landscape of Scotlands Western Isles. With luck on our side and some gentle Scottish summer weather, we hope to see and photograph animals such as Sea Otters, Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Red Deer, Grey Seals and both whales and dolphins. We have chosen comfortable mid-range accommodation and the services of expert local, friendly guides, to get a glimpse into the secret wildlife world of these spectacular rugged islands.

JULY 21

GLASGOW TO THE ISLE OF SKYE

Your tour leader, Allan Blanchard, will pick you up in the morning from Glasgow and drive you 4 hours to the tiny seaside village of Plockton. From here we will enjoy a short 1 hour private boat safari watching and photographing Grey Seals. On our return to shore we will cross the famous Isle of Skye bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh and drive an hour south to the beautiful coastal town of Portree, where we will overnight.

Accommodation : Portree Hotel

JULY 22&23

FULL DAYS OR PRIVATE WILDLIFE VIEWING WITH EXPERT GUIDE.

Skye is without doubt the best place in Scotland for Golden Eagles, and like Mull there are also boat trips to see and photograph Sea Eagles. Our focus for these two days will mainly be looking for and photographing Sea Otters and Eagles with our local guide who knows all the best spots.

JULY 24

PRIVATE BOAT SAFARI FOR SEA EAGLES

The beauty of being in Portree is that our private boat safari for getting close ups of the Sea Eagles departs from the jetty. So, we can simply roll out of bed, enjoy a sumptuous breakfast and then take a gentle walk down to the harbour to meet the captain and crew of the Stardust. We will then enjoy a 2 hour private boat safari which normally covers around 12 miles of coastline. On our return to shore we will enjoy an actioned packed road trip between Skye and the Isle of Mull, involving stunning coastline, multiple ferry crossings and maybe a chance to observe more wildlife.

Accommodation : Pennyghael Hotel,

JULY 25&26

TWO FULL DAYS OF WILDLIFE VIEWING ON MULL

We will follow the same blueprint for our long days of wildlife viewing we adopted in Skye, but this time in the company of a friendly local guide from the Isle of Mull, who is familiar with all the best spots for wildlife viewing. On a typical day we are likely to see White Tailed Sea Eagle, Golden Eagle, Hen Harrier, Buzzards, Divers and many others, normally 40 to 50 species of birds. Mammals include Red Deer, Common Seals, Atlantic Grey Seals, Otters, possible Porpoises and Dolphins and even occasional Mink! Nothing of course is guaranteed.

JULY 27

FULL DAY SELF-GUIDED WILDLIFE VIEWING

We now know a few of the key wildlife locations on the Island; this might be a great estuary for sea otters, or an active Sea Eagle nest. We will have a discussion in the morning with the group about what they would like to focus on and try to create both a flexible and exciting day of wildlife activities.

JULY 28

PRIVATE BOAT SAFARI TO PHOTOGRAPH SEA EAGLES

On our morning private boat safari we regularly have eagles taking fish from the surface of the sea as close as 25 feet away (yes really). Sometimes as they swoop down on their final approach they actually fly directly over the boat and as they take the fish you can hear the wind through their wings and the splash as they touch the water. We will be taking the famous ferry from Tobermory to Oban and then drive back to Glasgow where we will overnight at the Courtyard Marriott or similar

Accommodation : Courtyard Marriott
