Arctic Kingdom of the Polar Bear

Wildlife Trails has more than 20 years experience of providing private tailor-made tours to the High Arctic; organising exciting and adventurous wildlife tours to Inuit communities such as Qikitarjuaq, Igloolick and Repluse Bay. These are not tours for clients expecting deluxe accommodation or wildlife sightings ‘to order’. These tours are for people wanting to get a genuine insight into the Inuit hunting and artistic culture, and the chance to take a boat safari with Inuit guides who have eyes like Eagles – an experience you will never forget!

Day 1

ARRIVE IN WINNIPEG AND OVERNIGHT AT THE GRAND

Your Arctic polar bear and wildlife tour starts with a flight into the capital of Manitoba, Winnipeg, and an easy walk across from the arrival terminal to the Grand Hotel

Accommodation : The Grand Winnipeg Airport at Lake View

DAY 2

FLIGHT FROM WINNIPEG TO REPULSE BAY

Board your flight at Winnipeg International Airport for Naujaat (Repulse Bay). Today we will fly straight north over and above Hudson Bay to this small hamlet, home to approximately 1,000 people. Naujaat lies directly on top of the Arctic Circle in central Nunavut. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your simply local hotel. Naujaat is renowned for its excellent artisans, especially for its Inuit carvers who work in bone, ivory and stone

Accommodation : Simple local hotel

DAY 3 TO 5

THREE DAYS OF PRIVATE BOAT SAFARIS

Three full days of private boat safaris out in the inlets around Naujaat. The focus will be on looking for polar bears swimming between fjords, or on land. However, we will also look out for seals, arctic bird species and whales, such as the magnificent Bowhead Whale.

DAY 6

FINAL MORNING IN TOWN BEFORE FLIGHT BACK TO WINNIPEG

This morning you will have a couple of hours available to explore town and perhaps purchase some art before our late morning flight back to Winnipeg. Have a final wander through the co-op, take last minute photos, and say goodbye to the new friends you now have living on the Arctic Circle

Accommodation : The Grand Winnipeg Airport at Lake View

DAY 7

CONNECT WITH YOUR ONWARD INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT

Sadly, this is the end of your Polar Bear tour in the High Arctic, but if you are keen to explore more wildlife viewing opportunities in Canada within the same season, we can definitely provide you with some unique ideas.
