Gorilla Trekking Uganda - The best locations to see Mountain Gorillas!

A blog about the best places in Uganda to go Gorilla Trekking.

Gorilla trekking Uganda

Many of our clients want to know about the different Gorilla Trekking options we offer, if the countries are safe to visit and how many treks they need to take to ensure they achieve their dream of viewing Mountain Gorillas in the wild. This series of blogs will answer all those questions and look into more detail at the specific locations where Gorilla Trekking is permitted and the pros and cons of trekking there.

Currently Wildlife Trails offers mountain gorilla treks at 4 different locations in Uganda and one location in Rwanda. This is a generalisation about where the gorilla trekking actually starts from, as obviously each Gorilla family lives in a specific territory, which is guarded fiercely by the dominant Silverback Male Gorilla.

As with many Central African countries both Uganda and Rwanda have had periods of instability, but there have been no major incidents against tourists since the late 90's and thousands of visitors to both countries enjoy Gorilla Trekking here every year; one of the ultimate wildlife experiences anywhere in the world.

Because mountain gorillas have 96% of human DNA there is a very real risk of disease transmission, so you must be free of any colds or viruses on the day of your trek. If you are passed fit then the chance of you seeing Gorillas that day is nearly 100%. We have been sending clients to Uganda and Rwanda for nearly 10 years and no-one has ever failed to see Gorillas. However nearly all clients finishing the trek arem amazed how fast the hour with them passed and are itching for a second opportunity. So very year many of our clients enjoy two Gorilla Treks; one in Uganda and one in Rwanda.

It is possible to go Gorilla Trekking in Uganda anytime of the year, but if you want to avoid the months with generally the most rain, then do not travel in April/May or October/November.

The next blog will look at Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi (Buhoma) and a gorilla safari in Nkuringo.
