Gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda for 2015 - is it safe?

Up to date travel advice on Gorilla Trekking in Uganda for 2015.

Wildlife Trails prides itself on keeping our clients well informed about all our destinations; and with the amount of international attention on the Eastern Congo in recent months, we thought it would be a good idea to inform our clients about the security situation in Uganda and Rwanda; in particular Gorilla Trekking Uganda or a Gorilla Safari in either country next to the border with the Congo. We feel it is prudent first to point you towards the foreign office advice for Uganda and Rwanda. Although sometimes the advice from both the UK and US can be overly dramatic - and it has to be put into context with the risk of terrorism in the UK and other western countries, it is nevertheless an important resource prior to travel. However at Wildlife Trails we rely mainly on our strong relationships with the local ground agents, who are running tours on a weekly basis throughout the year and therefore have their finger on the pulse. They have seen more refugees crossing the border in both Uganda and Rwanda, but the Gorilla Trekking or any of the other major National Parks in both countries have not been affected by the fighting in the Eastern Congo. Furthermore it would be hugely damaging for both goverments to have any incidents inside the parks, so they have stepped up security in these areas.

We will continue to monitor the situation very closely, but feel confident that both countries are safe to visit and would point you towards the following Gorilla trekking safaris as exciting and wildlife rich experiences.
