Your holiday can be tailored to your requirements

As more and more exciting Jaguar photos 'flooded' the internet it was inevitable that locations like the Cuiaba river would start to attract large numbers of wildlife enthusiasts and we recognise that this is not the experience all wildlife lovers are looking for on their bespoke Brazil wildlife holiday. There are actually many other locations in the vast wetland known as the Pantanal and simply by flying into the south you can experience a very different style of wildlife safari.

Although the chances here to see Jaguars are less, the animal count can often be higher and more diverse and our clients have been lucky enough to see many giant anteaters, bush pigs, peccaries, 6 and 9-banded armadillos, capybara and caiman. Because you will have your own private naturalist, you can dictate the pace of the wildlife viewing; although we definitely recommend a few night time drives.

You will then fly south to Iguacu airport where you will be met by your friendly knowledgeable guide. We have visited this Unesco world heritage site multiple times, so know the importance of booking a hotel within the park and therefore being able to visit the falls in that 'golden' first 1-2 hours before the mainstream tourists arrive. We also know great places for bird watching and eating locally; so you will really maximise your 3 nights spent here before flying onto Sao Paulo or Rio.

Safari Style: BESPOKE WILDLIFE

Day 1

South Pantanal jaguar safaris from Campo Grande
Morning flight from Sao Paulo to Campo Grande
Fly from Sao Paulo to Campo Grande (most international flights arrive early morning!). On arrival your guide will pick you up and transfer you to the lovely ‘Pousada Aguape’ - a journey of approximately 5 hours on good roads - for your overnight accommodation. Afternoon free for wildlife viewing by boat or vehicle. Followed by a night time drive looking for unique nocturnal wildlife like Ocelot and crab eating foxes.

Accommodation : Pousada Aguape

Days 2-4

Best place to see Giant Anteaters in Brazil Pousada Aguape
Three full days exploring the rich wildlife habitats around the ranch
Three full days with your own private guide to explore the area around the Pousada in the southern Pantanal. There was a Giant Anteater project based in this area to help understand what this animal needs to thrive and some of the problems it faces at a local level. This means that the local knowledge in the best areas to see the anteaters is unparalleled and has led to Wildlife Trails clients having almost daily encounters.

Accommodation : Pousada Aguape

Day 5

Best hotels to stay at in Iguazu Falls
Transfer back to Campo Grande to connect with flight to Iguazu Falls
Early start for your transfer back to Campo Grande to connect with the afternoon flight to Iguazu Falls. You will be met and transferred to the luxurious ‘Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas’ . This is really the only place to be as it is actually inside the national park and you walk out of reception, down a few stairs and the first viewing point is less than 100m away.

Accommodation : Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Day 6

How to take the best photographs at Iguazu Falls
Full day for you to explore the Brazilian side of the falls.
Early start to beat the crowds - the falls are open from 08:30am (entrance fees included; the first trails are just a 100m from the front entrance of your hotel) and explore the various walking trails along the Brazilian side of Iguacu. In the afternoon you can relax at your beautiful hotel or head out for some more falls action.

Accommodation : Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Day 7

Wildlife activities at Iguazu Falls
Full day private guided tour of the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls
Early morning transfer with private car and driver/guide to the Argentinian side of the falls (all entrance fees included) and proceed directly to the falls so you can start the lower trail at 08:00 and then enjoy the upper trail immediately afterwards; before the main tourist crowds arrive. When appropriate you can either return to your hotel on the Brazilian side, or explore a little on the Argentinean side, including visiting the old town or the ‘river meeting’ of 3 countries; Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil

Accommodation : Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Day 8
