Avoid the crowds at Panna tiger reserve

Incredible morning visit to Khajuraho temples

Superb boat safaris and night drives

Tiger magic at Bandhavgarh

This tiger safari can be tailored to your needs

Wildlife Trails first visited Khajuraho and Panna tiger reserve way back in 2002 and during the last 17 years there have been more 'downs' than 'ups' in this beautiful reserve bordering the idyllic Ken River. Like Sariska, Panna lost all its tigers in the mid-2000's and it is now one of the main recipients of translocated tigers from famous tiger reserves like Bandhavgarh and Kanha, as they attempt to recapture former glories. For us, Panna was never just about the tigers, as we enjoyed starting our trip with time wandering around the beautiful temples at Khajuraho, before the short drive to our wilderness lodge at Panna. Here we will not just enjoy morning and afternoon jeep safaris, but also boat safaris on the Ken River and two nights of nocturnal drives in the buffer area - not permitted in most national parks in India. From there we head to the world famous Bandhavgarh tiger reserve - on a much better road these days thankfully - before enjoying 7 jeep safaris in a park that is just exploding at the moment with tiger action.

Safari vehicles will have a maximum of 4 guests per jeep.  At Bandhvagarh we have handpicked a specialist local naturalist to accompany all safaris.

Best time to visit - FEB

Day 1

Best airport hotels in Delhi for comfort and price
Arrive into Delhi and overnight near the airport
Arrive into Delhi, where you will be met and transferred to the Novotel Aerocity for your overnight accommodation. This 4 star hotel has excellent rooms and is known for its diverse and beautiful breakfasts.

Day 2

Best hotels to stay in at Khajuraho
Fly to Khajuraho and overnight at Lalit Temple
Morning flight to Khajuraho, where you will be met and transferred to the Lalit Temple View Khajuraho. Late afternoon sunset viewing and photography of the western temples. Overnight in a temple view room on the second floor.

Day 3

Best places to see leopards in india night drive at Panna national park
Temples and first game drive in Panna
Sunrise viewing of the temples followed by a 1 hour transfer to ‘Ken River Lodge’, where we will overnight. First afternoon jeep safari in Panna national park. Buffer drive at night for nocturnal wildlife, with the genuine chance to see Leopard, Sloth Bear and Hyena.

Days 4&5

Tiger safari in Panna national park
Game drives, boat safaris and night time drives
What we love about Panna tiger reserve is the sheer variety of wildlife activities possible. This is especially noticeable, when you compare it to other tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh which do not have either boat safaris, or the superb night time safaris in the buffer zone. When we visited in March 2020, these were a real revelation and very successful for leopard and hyena encounters.

Accommodation : Ken River Lodge

Day 6

best places to see tigers in India at Bandhavgarh national park
Transfer to Bandhavgarh national park
Morning jeep safari in Panna National Park. Later transfer to the ‘Nature Heritage’ at Bandhavgarh national park - world famous for tiger viewing and one of the best places to see large male tigers in India.

Days 7-9

how to photograph tigers at Bandhavgarh national park
Three days of morning and afternoon jeep safaris
There are three key zones in Bandhavgarh tiger reserve and in recent years due to the growth of the tiger population, the chance to see tigers is high in all of them. Client favourites based on history and pedigree tend to be Tala or Magadhi; but Khitoli should not be underestimated and for sure a couple of game drives should be included here.

Accommodation : Nature Heritage

Day 10

Best hotels in Delhi if you are flying the next day
Drive to Jabalpur to connect with flight to Delhi
Final morning jeep safari before driving to Jabalpur to connect with an evening flight to Delhi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Novotel Aerocity where you will relax in the comfort of this luxury hotel

Day 11

Transfer to Delhi international to connect with your onward flight
Sadly, this is the end of your India tiger safari and your visit to India. Unless you would like to add anyone of our many extensions to national parks, mountain retreats or secluded beach resorts away from the crowds?
