India wildlife tour visiting Gujurat for Lions, Wolf and Hyena

Despite its arid appearance the Little Rann of Kutch is home to a variety of spectacular wildlife, including the last surviving herd of Asiatic Wild Ass in India. Just 3000 animals remain in this tiny enclave which they share with Nilgai (India’s largest antelope), Blackbuck, Chinkara, Hyenas, Wolves, Jackals, and Foxes. Velavadar National Park is one of the smallest of India’s National Parks but offers a great deal for the discerning wildlife enthusiast. The park was specifically designated for the conservation of the once endangered Blackbuck Antelope, and is without doubt the best place to see this noble animal. With no other large predators the park also has a thriving Striped Hyena and Indian Wolf population and offers unparalleled opportunities to observe these rarely sighted canids. Velavadar also offers significant birding highlights, most notably the thousands of Pallid, Marsh, and Montagu’s Harriers that winter here each year, and a sizeable lake frequented by flamingos, pelicans, herons, and other waders and waterfowl. This is an Indian wildlife tour for those looking to take the path less travelled and who enjoy a variety of wildlife, including unique mammals and birds.

Although rather out on a limb relative to the more famous Indian wildlife parks in the north and centre of the country, Gir is a special park and the last stronghold of one of the rarest and most endangered big cats in the world: the Asiatic Lion. Add to that one of the highest densities of Leopards found in India and the chance to explore the little visited state of Gujurat, rich in history and culture and you have several reasons to make this your next India wildlife tour.
