India Golden Triangle
6 days from £850*
Many Indian wish-lists begin with finding Bengal tigers in their natural habitat, and while you are there it is hard to pass up the chance to see the Taj Mahal, and maybe some time in the 'Pink City' of Jaipur. This cultural extension includes one night in Agra, and two nights in each of Jaipur and the National Capital of Delhi where your historic accommdaotion will enhance your stay. There is plenty more to see than the Taj Mahal, with Agra Fort and the so-called 'baby Taj' of Itimad-ud--daulah, with occasional wildife highlights like deer, antelope and monkeys in the grounds of Akbar's Mausoleum, and an alterative view of the Taj Mahal at sunset from the Mehtab Bagh (moonlight garden).
Driving on to Jaipur offers the possiblity to include Castle Kanota and the Abhaneri Stepwell en route (both stuning settings for the Exotic Marigold movie). The 'Alsisar Haveli' was built in 1892 in the heart of the 'Pink City' and retains much of it's original Rajput splendour. After climbing the ramparts (elephant ride possible) the views alone from Amber Fort are worth it, before exploring the architecture and artefacts of the City Palace Complex and viewing the facade of the Palace of Winds (Hawa Mahal). You may even take the time for a little shopping - Jaipur is an important centre for jewelery and textiles. Finally Delhi isn't just somewhere to arrive in and then leave from, having visited so many times we have barely scratched the surface of things to see and experience, from the colonial architecture of Sir Edwin Lutyens, to the vibrant spice markets of Chandni Chowk, the Qutab Minar from 1193 to the Akshardham Temple opened in 2005 and everything in between.
