India wildlife holiday visiting Pench National Park

India wildlife tour and bespoke tiger safari visiting Pench National Park
Pench received worldwide attention through the acclaimed BBC wildlife documentary ‘Spy in the Jungle’, when we learned for the first time about ‘boulder cam’ and saw elephants added to the BBC payroll as they carried the remote cameras all around Pench to capture some stunning TV sequences of tigers. Wildlife Trails had already been sending clients to Pench for many years before this wildlife film was made, and our clients had been enjoying some great tiger sightings, as well as fairly regular encounters with leopard. Back then, there were very few lodges to stay at and this park was definitely a great option for those seeking to get away from the crowds. Despite the rapid development of this area with additional lodges and its close proximity to the major city of Nagpur, if you avoid the weekend and travel at the right time of year (Wildlife Trails always puts real thought and expertise into the timing of your India wildlife tour) Pench can still be a magical place to visit and the standard of accommodation is very high'; with Indian wildlife lodges such as 'Pench Jugle Camp' providing excellent accommodation nearer the Turia gate. Consider a 'split stay' by including the stunning 'Jamtara Wilderness Camp', far from the madding crowd on the quiet side of the park.
Aside from the tigers there are many other notable residents, including sloth bear, gaur (Indian bison), dhole, Nilgai and chausingha (India’s largest and smallest antelopes), lesser cats, jackals, rhesus macaque and flying squirrels. Approximately 250 bird species are listed in the park, including winter migrants. Of particular interest are Grey and Malabar Pied Hornbills, Eurasian Thick Knee, White-naped Woodpecker and Oriental Honey Buzzard. A great India wildlife tour for people with varied wildlife interests.
