Private Black Buck Antelope tour (not found inside the park!)

If you have been reading the international press over the previous years, you could have been left with the opinion that Ranthambhore was a park on the decline; rampant poaching, poor park management, unsustainable tourism development. However in many ways Ranthambhore is a lot like the tigers it protects, however much you throw at it, it keeps coming back to surprise you; but for how long?  From the regularity of sightings over the last 4 or 5 years and new cubs born; this park has made a turn-around, to the extent that several tigers were re-located to begin a re-introduction program in to nearby Sariska; although not everyone is happy about this!!!

What some people fail to point out is that Ranthambhore is by far the most photogenic of all of India’s national parks. Not just for the wonderful scenery, 3 beautiful lakes and impressive cliff top fort, but also for the fact that you will have so much more to photograph in this park than any other location.  At Ranthambhore it is worth being aware that the connected safaris (zones 6-10) around the main park are a good addition to escape the ‘day-trippers’ and enjoy greater freedom and flexibility.  For example the Sawai Madhopur Sanctuary (also referred to as Kundal) has most in common with the core area of the main park and is providing increasing tiger sightings, being connected at several points with zone 1 of Ranthambhore National Park.  There are two natural water holes and two smaller artificial water holes which attract a good variety of bird and mammal species, including both tiny Chinkara and the larger Nilgai antelopes, also good grasslands for wild boar.  These prey species of course attract hyena, leopard, tiger and vultures.
