Why should I pay more and organise a polar bear tour in peak season in Churchill, Canada?

The simple answer to this is more polar bears! However when you look into it a bit more deeply, you will also find different types of polar bear safaris available in peak season. These range from this style of hotel based polar bear tour we illustrate below, to a multi-night stay on the famous Tundra Buggy lodge, where you are pretty much seeing polar bears 24/7; to more intimate polar bear walking safaris with specialist operators who own polar bear lodges in the wilderness areas north of Churchill. In addition, peak season brings a higher probability of ice and snow, which in turn attracts more polar bears to Churchill. This is a wonderful time for dynamic interaction between multiple bears, who for most of the year do their best to avoid each other, but while waiting for the ice to form on the Hudson Bay, interact with each other. It is common to see juvenile polar bears sparring on the ice and the odd battle scarred huge male polar bear strutting his stuff.

This is a Small Group Tour

  1. Day 1

Your polar bear tour starts with arrival in Winnipeg and overnight at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Meet up with the rest of the group and your tour leader.

  2. Day 2

Morning flight into Churchill where you will be met and transferred to your simple motel.

  3. Day 3&4

Two full days of Tundra Buggy excursions out in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. It normally takes around 2 hours to get out to the best polar bear viewing areas and you will enjoy a warm lunch on board your heated buggy. As well as sliding windows on the inside of the tundra buggy, you can step out into the cold outside viewing platform, where curious polar bears sometimes smell your feet through the thick metal grate.

  4. Day 5

Dog sled program; Parks Canada Interpretive Centre to learn about the historical significance of Churchill. Evening flight back to Winnipeg and overnight again at the Sheraton

  5. Day 6

Connect with your onward international flight. End of your polar bear tour in Churchill, Canada.
