Profile on India Wildlife Guide Avijit Dutta
Avijit’s affinity for nature started early as he spent 13 years of his childhood in the mountains of Darjeeling while attending school. After a degree in history and a management in tourism, Avijit chose his love for nature in the form of his first job as a naturalist in the Sunderbans delta which he has continued to explore from him home in Kolkata, West Bengal. Over the last 8 years he has gone on to work and travel across the entire Indian subcontinent, including the jungles of central India; working at some of the best Indian wildlife lodges in both Satpura and Pench - where he tracked big game including Tigers, Leopards and Wild Dogs for his clients. However, Avijit’s inclination towards exploring the north east has resulted in extensive travels to the states of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. In addition to this, he has repeatedly visited 'off the beaten track' national parks in Assam, including Nameri, Orang, Dibru-Saikhowa and Manas. Tea experiences, hikes, treks and home stays are his personal recommendations when visiting Kalimpong or Darjeeling hill stations. His other interests include heritage, culture and food; for which he relishes any opportunity to take guests out to the narrow streets, busy bazars and ghetto communities in his home town of Calcutta. Through his tours and explorations, Avijit wishes to bring to hilight the extensive wildlife diversity in this unexplored region and interact with respect and honesty with the ethnic communities living here, most of whom are rarely discussed within the India travel community.
We are delighted that Avijit will be leading our stunning 15 day wildlife tour of North East India, visiting Kolkata, Gibbon Sanctuary, Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri and Pakke; with a focus on seeing tigers, elephants, rhino and Hoolock Gibbons.
