Antarctic Park Profiles
Antarctic Cruises can be roughly divided into four main types of voyages, which vary in both the locations they visit and the length and therefore price of the cruise. It is very important that clients have an understanding what each of these locations brings to the table, in terms of species likely to be seen and activities undertaken.
The classic crossing of Drakes Passage to reach the magical 7th continent and the wildlife rich Antarctic Peninsula. Be amazed as you get up close and personal with thousands of Penguins, Seals and Seabirds and have the chance to view Whales breaching amonst a backfrop of blue icebergs and huge glaciers - a once in a lifetime experience; although you might want to come back next year if we can get you a good deal!
For those clients looking to avoid the long 2 days at sea to reach the Antarctic Peninsula this is the perfect solution. You will be flown direct from Punta Arenas to an airfield on the Peninsula, before being transferred to your expedition vessel. This allows you a greater focus on wildlife viewing on the Peninsula and a chance to see a rich variety of both terrestrial and marine wildlife.
The longest and most diverse tour on offer in Antartica, with quality time at three incredibly different and diverse locations. The Falklands stopover allows us to see 4 different species of Penguins, as well as King Cormorants and the rare Albatross. Then it is onto South Georgia for an opportunity to get up close to King and Macaroni Penguins, as well as Elephant and Fur Seals. Finally, you cruise into the spectacular ice clogged Antarctic Sound; Ice Berg territory, as you approach the Antarctic Peninsula. Highlights include a million pairs of Adelie Penguins on Paulet Island, Chinstrap Penguins and 3 different species of Seals. Visit Curverville Island for a large colony of Gentoo Penguins and breeding pairs of Brown Skuas, before cruising to the Melchior Islands, with the chance to see Leopard Seals, Crabeater Seals and Whales .
this voyage will combine all the main elements of the Antarctic Peninsual tour already described with a continuation of the journey further south, to Crystal Sound, which is south of the Polar Circle and onto Fish Island where you will land to see the southernmost Adelie Penguin and Blue-eyed Shag colonies in the Antarctic Peninsula. Massive Glaciers and Mountains dominate this beautiful landscape and you will be sad to change direction for a northly setting to start the journey home; still lots to see on the way back as you come to the end of your Antarctic cruise.
