Kenya

Kenya safaris are some of the most sought after in Africa. When it comes to wildlife safaris Kenya has a rich history and in many ways developed the modern African safari so many people enjoy today. With a genuine chance to see the Big 5 in famous game reserves and national parks such as the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Samburu and Tsavo East and West. Kenya wildife sanctuaries are some of the best in the world and have attracted filmakers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.

A Kenya Safari would not be complete without a visit to the world famous Masai Mara. Many people choose to visit in September to get a close up view of one of natures most amazing wildlife spectacles; the Wildebeest migration. However the Masai Mara has one of the densest populations of Leopards in the country and also produces regular sightings of Lions and Cheetah. The famous BBC doucmentary Big Cat Diary brought many of these famous cats into our living rooms and inspired many of us to take our first Kenya safari.

We work with a wide variety of Kenya wildlife lodges, not just the luxury lodges, to ensure our bespoke Kenya safaris shown you amazing Kenyan wildlife, in the company of great wildlife guides, but still at an affordable price.

We know that from many regular clients who visit multiple times a year and it is one of those safari destinations which can deliver great wildlife encounters outside of the main high season, which runs from July to October. It is without doubt one of the best places in the world to see big cats and it is not unsual in the Mara to have regular sightings of the Big 3; Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. This June departure will see cheaper options available on international flights and less crowds in the park, so why not join us on this Big Cat safari at Mara Intrepids in June 2021.

Black Panther wildlife holiday in Kenya
A good friend of Wildlife Trails and superb photographer, Chris Brunskill, has literally just returned from Laikipia wilderness camp, and his amazing images of Giza have been published all around the world. There are many reasons why a beautiful cat like Giza becomes less shy and is seen more regularly by the safari vehicles and of course this can also change rapidly, due to terrotorial fights or other  factors. Ourselves and some of our clients have been lucky enough to see the Black Panther in Nagerhole, India; but now due to the increasing tiger population, sightings are much rarer. So with that in mine, we have booked the entire Laikipia river camp for the first week of September and are putting together a small group led by Allan Blanchard. We do expect this to sell out fast, so please only enquire if you are definitely free to travel for these dates.

Budget Kenya safari in the Mara
Join us on a Kenya wildlife holiday to remember in the beautiful Masai Mara during one of the peak months for river crossings and migration action. Wildlife Trails will be going BIG in Kenya this September, with back to back safaris running right through the month. First we start with a week at the beautiful Laikipia wilderness camp for the chance to photograph the legendary Black Panther, Giza. Allan will then fly to meet the group arriving into the Mara for 4 nights at the stunning Mara Legends Camp, which has a perfect location for our Big Cat safaris. Finally, he will head over to the Kicheche Mara North camp to finish off what will be an amazing combination of Kenya wildlife camps and wildlife experiences.

Kenya wildlife safari – the best Kenya parks, where to stay and key species

Kenya is famous around the world for the chance to see the Big 5 and the famous Wildebeest River crossings, which overwhelm you, with the sounds and sights of thousands of tens of thousands of animals running down the steep sided riverbanks and plunging into the crocodile infested waters. We were there in September 2023 and were lucky enough to witness a huge crossing and it is an experience that will live with us for the rest of our lives.

The Black Panther – a mythical animal that connects us with our ancient past.

As I prepared to visit Laikipia wildlife sanctuary in September 2023 for another potential encounter with this stunning feline – this time a female known as Giza – I found myself asking what it is that draws humans towards these melanistic variants and how has it manifested in our behaviour towards them over the centuries and indeed, millennia?

Our Clients Say About Us

★★★★★
Africa changes you forever and you will always yearn to return to the bush

How do you describe being on safari in the African Bush ? That is hard because it is not just about seeing animals in their natural environment ; it is about experiences, feelings , smells and all se things that fill the senses. We stayed in a tented camp and this is the only way to truly experience Africa, hearing the sounds of Hyena and Lion whilst you lay in your bed at night. Making sure you get excellent guides is key to getting the right experience and we were so lucky in this respect. They impart so much of their in - depth knowledge of the wildlife and ensure you get wonderful sightings of some amazing animals and birds but with care and consideration for their environment You just have to go there ! I have given Wildlife Trails repeat business since I first used them. They are a small company but with a wealth of experience and customer service. They are prepared to give a lot of time in helping to put together a holiday itinerary that will tick all the boxes. In addition their quoted costs are very fair and not over inflated like some operators. I recommended friends to use them , which they did, and they were not disappointed.
