We first head to Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary by train from Delhi; a national park which Wildlife Trails have been visiting since 1997 and have helped pioneer specialist tours outside of the park itself to give our clients a more rounded and rich experience. As well as the daily morning and afternoon tiger safaris inside Ranthambhore national park, we will undertake private excursions to tribal villages, lakes and buffer areas of the park; which themselves are full of life; whether that be a group of ladies in their resplendent saris bringing in the winter crop, or noctural wildlife such as Indian Fox or Hyena scavenging on the dry scrublands outside of the villages. We head to Lake Surwal to see hundreds of migratory birds and the village of Devpura to observe the elegant and shy Black Buck Antelope. All of these activities are done at a gentle pace with your own local private guide and with a focus on taking our time to appreciate and photograph these unique rural scenes.

After our time in Ranthambhore we depart via the scenic back roads (no highways) on a beautiful journey which takes us across the Banas River (one of the boundaries of Ranthambhore national park) and through some beautiful river side sand dunes. Further on we pass through some old tribal villages where we can still observe Oxon being used to turn the giant mill stones, as well as 'camel chariots' transporting crops or building materials. This is an insight into rural eastern Rajasthan that few visitors have the chance to experience, so we will take our time, stopping regularly and enjoying watching 'village life' unfold.

Rajasthan is famous around the world for its hill top forts, palaces and havelis, so we have created a tour which allows you to live like a royal for 2 nights with a stay at the beautiful Ramathra Fort. Even the drive up to the drop off point is spectacular as your vehicle drives up steep narrow roads and under imposing gateways and the views from the forts ramparts as you enjoy a refreshing welcome drink are truely spectacular. Because of its rural location and access to a nearby dam a stay at Ramathra is very productuve for both birds and noctural wildlife such as Jackals and some of the lesser cat species like Jungle Cat. So we will enjoy a mixture of private boat safaris and evening drives to search for the resident wildlife.

From Ramathra we head north to Agra and a chance to view the iconic Taj Mahal from different locations and in the evening, as well as at sunrise. We also have a private guided tour of Agra Fort and the 'Baby Taj'. A trip to India without an overnight train journey (although carriages are basic) would see you miss out on a social phenomenon, whch allows the mass transportation of the country's huge population despite very low incomes. A trip on an Indian train is like travelling through a small vibrant village; with street vendors, families eating theier chapatis and vegetables together and colourdul characters regaling their family history and memories of India's colonial past.

Our final destination is Tadoba national park where we will stay at a lovely resort and have access to two of the main entry gates into the park. This provides greater flexibility on our daily safari drives to visit different areas of the park and if we are lucky the chance to see wild dogs and sloth bears, as well as the resident tigers.
