Tiger, Leopard and Wild Dog Safari in Satpura National Park
7 days from £1210* 1 review
Tiger Safari in Satpura; this is a park on the radar of many wildlife enthusiasts due to the excellent work of Hashim Tyabji (now owner of Forsyth Lodge) and the forward thinking of park management. When Wildlife Trails visited Satpura for the first time in 2009 we were amazed at the diversity of wildlife activities permitted in the park. A visitor has to understand that because all of India’s tiger sanctuaries have been managed by the state, this has led to a very outdated and single minded approach to wildlife viewing, that has not always benefited either the wildlife or visitors to the park. Satpura has almost taken an African approach to its management and the result is glorious guided walking safaris, scenic small boat safaris and visitor numbers being managed to ensure a quality jeep safari experience inside the park. These efforts have now earnt the park the well-deserved award of 'Visitor Friendly Wildlife Destination of the Year' in TOFTigers 2014 Wildlife Tourism Awards. Add to this mix a couple of outstanding (and award winning) wildlife lodges, combining comfort and expert guiding, and the only question left is when are you coming?
Birding is excellent within and around the park and although tiger sightings are not common, it is a privilege to have a chance to see animals such as Sloth Bear, Gaur and Leopard within the beautiful forest. Heading out in the evening gives the chance to look out for some rarely seen species, including porcupine, civet, jungle cat, rusty spotted cat, honey badger and eagle owl. This is a park for people looking to escape the crowds and gain a real appreciation of wildlife and wilderness in central India.
