Bespoke tiger safari visiting Panna National Park in Madhya Pradesh
7 days from £1160* 2 reviews
India wildlife tour and bespoke tiger safari visiting Panna national park.
Wildlife Trails first visited Panna back in 2003, staying at the beautifully located Ken River Lodge and sighting two tiger siblings from Elephant Back on a cold, misty morning in January. Back then the park had a small but healthy tiger population which was being tracked by the tenacious Dr. Ragu Chandawaht, and at the time I visited, film maker Gordon Buchannan. With its wonderful wildlife, location close to the magnificent temples of Khajuraho, and easy rail and plane links, Panna seemed to have everything going for it as a prime location for an Indian tiger safari. However just a few years later the park was plunged into crisis as it was revealed by Indian journalists that all of the tigers in Panna had been poached - Panna had followed Sariska into the abyss and it looked a long way back for this little gem of a park. Fast forward to 2012/2013 and the future looks a little brighter, due to the re-introduction of tigers into the reserve who are at last breeding and growing in number. I would say come to Panna for all its wildlife diversity and beauty, from birds to gharial and mugger crocodiles in the river, and deer, sloth bear, and langur in the forest, and enjoy the possible (rare) sighting of a tiger as a privileged bonus on this India wildlife tour.
