Polar Bear tour and Grizzly Bear tour in Canada with Bear Trails
View the incredible wildlife of Canada and the Arctic with our interactive map

Bear Trails specialise in tailor made wildlife tours to see and photograph bears, whales and other wildlife in Canada and The Arctic. Canada is home to all 3 great bears of North America - the Grizzly Bear, Black Bear and Polar Bear - as well as other fascinating land mammals, both large and small. It also boasts apex predators in the air and ocean including the Bald Eagle and Orca or Killer Whale. Numerous species of whales and other marine mammals can be found in its coastal waters, and a bewildering array of resident and migratory birds fill its skies. In the Far North, "Nanook" The Great White Bear shares his kingdom of snow and ice with strange and mysterious animals like the Muskox, Walrus, and Narhwal. From the forests, rivers, and rocky mountains of the Pacific Northwest, to the desolation and raw beauty of the Arctic Tundra, let Bear Trails help you to design your perfect wildlife tour to this fascinating and diverse country.

This is the main navigation page for Bear Trails. From here you can access all of the site contents. Click on any of the 3 Provinces above for specific information about their native wildlife, wildlife destinations, and the activities available. We organise tailor-made trips to any or all of these Provinces, and to see all 3 species of bears. You choose your own itinerary, we make it happen.

While Canada is at the forefront of the First World, and boasts one of the highest standards of living anywhere in the world, it is has a relatively low population density with around 90% of the population living within a few hundred miles of the border with the USA. This translates to huge swathes of natural wilderness habitat, much of it protected, allowing wildlife as amazingly diverse as the habitats they live in to thrive, with little contact with, or encroachment from humans. Canada's National and Provincial Parks are far too numerous to list individually, but collectively they offer unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities, and almost as many ways to see wildlife as there are species to see. Wildlife can be observed from elevated viewing platforms, hides, vehicles, boats, sea kayaks, and on foot, to name but a few.

In the west, where the Coast Mountains meet the Pacific, the forests, rivers, and rugged coastline of British Columbia are home to the mighty Grizzly Bear, and their its smaller kin cousin the Black Bear. Overhead the Bald Eagle is the king of his aerial domain, and the rich coastal waters are the core habitat of the most studied Orca or Killer Whale population in the world, and play host to migratory baleen whales including the Humpback, Minke and Gray Whale. Minke Whales, Pacific Whitesided Dolphins, Dall's Porpoises, Sea lions and Seals also call these emerald green waters home, as do all 5 species of Pacific Salmon.

In the middle of the country, stretching form the US border to the shores of Hudson Bay, is the prairie province of Manitoba. In the south fields of wheat that stretch as far as the eye can see give way to forests of Birch and Aspen, and here can be found those stalwarts of the Canadian wilderness scene, the Black Bear, Grey Wolf, Bison, Moose, Elk, and Beaver. To the north the trees give way to the sub arctic barrenlands and tundra. This is home range for the Arctic Fox, Arctic Hare, Willow Ptarmigan, Snowy Owl, and the most southerly population of Polar Bears.

Far to the north east, much of it inside the Arctic Circle, is the Inuit self governed territory of Nunavut. Here the Polar Bear is truly the master of all he surveys. On land the shaggy Muskox, Caribou, Arctic Fox and Arctic Hare try to eke out a living in one of the harshest environments on earth. On the borderline between ice and open water is where you will find the Walrus and Bearded, Hooded, Harp and Ring Seals, the unicorn of the seas, the Narwhal, and the Bowhead Whale, the only great baleen whale to spend the entire year in Arctic waters.

We believe strongly in responsible eco-tourism with an emphasis on respect for wildlife, the environment , indigenous cultures, and the wilderness communities we visit . Our aim is to create a company that not only provides unforgettable wildlife tours, but also directly contributes to the effective conservation of wildlife and natural habitat, and rewards responsible ecotourism initiatives in small, often remote communities with much needed income.

So join us on the hunt for Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears and Whales, where the only shots you will take, are through a camera lens.
