Gorilla Trails specialise in tailor made
wildlife tours to see and photograph Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Tree
Climbing Lions and other wildlife in Uganda and Rwanda. Two of our
closest relatives, the mountain gorilla and the common chimpanzee
are found in Uganda and Rwanda - as well as perennial safari
favourites such as Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe and Leopard.
Primates are exceptionally well represented in Uganda, with a
check list that presently includes 13 diurnal and 6 nocturnal
species. Uganda also possesses a remarkable avian diversity, with
1008 bird species recorded in an area similar to Great Britain.
Let Gorilla Trails help you to design your perfect wildlife tour
to these fascinating and diverse countries.
This is the main navigation page for Gorilla Trails. From here you
can access all of the site contents. Click on any of the National
Parks above for specific information about their native wildlife
and the activities available. We organise tailor-made trips to any
or all of these Parks, and to see Gorillas in both Uganda and
Rwanda. You choose your own itinerary, we make it happen.
Uganda has changed beyond all recognition. When people visited in
the 90's every aspect of the country was still tangibly affected
by a 15 year cycle of dictatorship and civil war. This war had not
only left millions of people either dead or without a home; it had
also decimated the wildlife in some of the most spectacular parks
in Africa. But with the stability of the new government and a
'real' focus on preserving its wildlife, Uganda has staged a
remarkable recovery.
Today's Uganda affords fantastic wildlife opportunities, and the
chance to trek within metres of one of the world's last few
hundred Mountain Gorillas. Arguably the most exciting wildlife
encounter in Africa, gorilla trekking is genuinely a privilege for
any visitor to this fascinating country. In addition, there are 3
locations to track wild chimpanzees in Uganda and follow a narrow
rainforest trail alive with the heart-stopping 'pant-hoot'
chorusing of our closest relative.
Aside from primates there are amazing savannah parks such as
Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth that have made an impressive
recovery from the dark days of the Idi Amin era. These parks are
now full of game including vast herds of elephants, hundreds of
hippos, giraffe, lion and even leopard. Take a ride along the
Kazinga Channel in the shadow of the Ruwenzori Mountains, as you
watch elephants drink from the nearby shore and hundreds of hippos
relax in the shallows.
For those clients yearning to leave the jeeps and stretch their
legs in the beautiful countryside, opportunities abound in Uganda.
There are the Ruwenzori and Mount Elgon, where one can explore
East Africa's bizzare montane vegetation and the bird and mammal
species found in this habitat. Or for the adrenalin junkies
amongst you there is white water rafting (up to level 5 rapids),
kayaking and the now obligatory bungee jump, all located at
Bujagali Falls.
We believe strongly in responsible eco-tourism with an emphasis on
respect for wildlife, the environment, indigenous cultures, and
the wilderness communities we visit. Our aim is to create a
company that not only provides unforgettable wildlife tours, but
also directly contributes to the effective conservation of
wildlife and natural habitat, and rewards responsible ecotourism
initiatives in small, often remote communities with much needed
income.
So join us on the hunt for Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Tree Climbing
Lions and other amazing African wildlife, where the only shots you
will be taking, are through a camera lens.
